He had written about dazedand confused its inevitability, its desirability, and written pages and pages on how great it is and how many wonderful things could be don e with it? Then, in the ensuing years, scientist after scientist tried to make a benign fusion device. And they did! Tens were made, some following the instructions to the letter, some improvising along the way. But what all these devices had in common was their utter failure. Some exploded, injuring or even killing those around them. Others just drained money away from the dazedand confused departments and time away from the scientists while producing none of the promised benefits. The majority failed in the years that followed, but a few still run, draining money, intermittently injuring people, and delivering nothing of worth. But yet, this scientist, whose plans had failed again and again, still commanded a large following around the world.
