I agree snoop that "the wealth production has tended to go to the wealthy". However, in addition to stock market returns being stagnant, interest rates have been very low, and dividends low. I don't know how they're making their money. Average Joes are making it from home price inflation. Everyone is in denial about something. Over the last 5 years the Dow Jones Industrial Avergage is down movie approximately 5%, S&P500 down roughly 20% and Nasdaq down roughly 45%. Given a movie historical norm of roughly 10% per year, that compares with a very rough norm of 60% increase. Of course, thats only with reference to capital gains and when you sell, and not as much dividends rents and interest. Likewise there has been a large shift from future generations to the wealthy today via tax cuts and deficit spending. While captal gains isnt a leading mechanism, the wealth production has tended to go to the wealthy. |
