These sorts of hurricanes have always hit the south coast of the US and, yes, while they are probably getting worse for environmental reasons we should not be so quick to jump to the conclusion that G-d carried sarah vowell it out because who can claim to know the mind of G-d? And, quite possibly, a lot of the people who died in New Orleans were the ones who could not afford to get out and who, quite sarah vowell likely, could have voted Democratic ( and do sarah vowell you think the Democrats would not have continued the war?)
