I have recently been in several arguments with "conservatives" who keep telling me that: Although they themselves do not believe, they are bigger supporters of my religion than the priests, nuns, and lay ministers that I hang out vice president with every day (who do not mince words when it comes to criticizing certain policies like the War in Iraq and the mistaken notion that "the Lord helps those who help themselves.")I appreciate your honsesty in talking to me (because the folks I have debated with vice president in the past don't like to admit that they are not Christians when they are arguing that America is a Christian country.... it isn't. We are a country with Christians in it. Sometimes it shows. Sometimes, to our shame, it doesn't). I guess my impatience got the best of me. Overall, I feel like the GOP has adopted a "Christian-style" as a marketing tool... And leaders use Christian language to reassure us that even though what they are doing looks bad, they are thinking about Jesus while they do it (But I wonder what exactly they do think of Jesus).
