If the insurance company is correct, and the negotiated fee is only $460, then the hospital has agreed to accept that amount as payment IN FULL. The benefit to the hospital is the large number of people in your plan being directed to certain "in-network" providers.

The statement from my insurance company declared that they had a negotiated payment of $460 for the procedure. Not long afterwards I got a bill from the hospital for the other $640. After not paying the kadafee difference, I got turned over to a collection agency. If all businesses ran on such a model, kadafee we'd be in deep shit.
