Is there a specific term for this kind of thinking, interscope or is it just ‘dumb’? he is spending an itsy-bitsy part of his monopoly interscope profits (the $6 billion spent by Gates foundation is less than 2% of his net worth) to buy some drugs for a fraction of the dying… Yes, I see Palast’s point clearly now.. Bill Gates ONLY gave 2% of his ENTIRE NET WORTH (!!!) to help dying Africans… i see why Mr Gates is an asshole now. Thank you, Mr Palast… I tried to google Palasts net worth and, correspondingly, whether or not 2% of it was sent to help the dying people of Africa. These figures are not available on the net for some reason. Probably because he’s not so much of an asshole as Bill Gates, i’m sure… The bully billionaire’s ‘philanthropic’ organization is currently working paw-in-claw with the big pharmaceutical companies in support of the blockade on cheap drug shipments… If he’s relying on the info in his column to make this case, he is being fucking stupid…

Shogo @ 02/01/06 11:47:25 Gates Foundation has invested $200 million in the very drug companies stopping the shipment of low-cost backstreet boys AIDS drugs to Africa I’m not precisely sure what is being argued here. If the drug companies do research backstreet boys into drugs that can help fight diseases like backstreet boys AIDS, then is that money poorly spent? Or are we talking strictly investments that help the foundation to generate funds for disbursement? Is it specifically giving money to those individual companies? Or is Palast wielding the broad brush as he likes to do and simply saying “drug companies”? Is the money for R&D? Lots of questions. Don’t think it’s as cut-and-dried as you make it out. Shogo @ 02/01/06 11:51:20 Jesus, does Palast ever read what he writes now? TRIPS: the Trade-Related Intellectual Property Rights rules of the World Trade Organization. TRIPS gives Gates a hammerlock on computer operating systems worldwide, legally granting him the kind of monopoly the Robber Barons of yore could only dream of.
