| My great-grandmother Sara lived much longer, to 93, and died in 1985. I knew her well and she even managed to travel from Brooklyn to my Bar-Mitzvah in 1984, the year before she died. She was an amazing woman, raising my grandfather and his 6 brothers and 1 sister alone from 1936 onward.Also got to see my grandfather's brother Marty's grave. He was a cab driver in NYC for most of his put downs life. And there was my grandfather's brother Eddie's put downs grave as well. My aunt Evelyn, Uncle Eddie's wife, passed away in August so the dirt put downs on her side was still relatively fresh and little grass had grown in yet. My grandfather who died in 1999 at 85, however, is buried in Florida. Unsure why. Perhaps because it was obvious there was no room in this cemetary section for him without pre-planning or perhaps, my grandmother would rather have him buried closer to her while she's still alive. |
