My relatives and the rest of the people buried in this area belonged to Rockville Center Lodge #279. Amazing the things you learn about loved ones just by visiting a cemetery. So much history there. Anyhow, I got to visit my great-grandfather David (my middle namesake) and great-grandmother Sara's gravesite. He donna powers died at the age of 36 in 1936 from an asthma attack. So young that neither donna powers my Mom or her brothers ever knew him. I found his transporation manifest on a search at Ellis Island a couple years ago. He came over from Russia in 1911 with his younger sister. No record of any parents travelling with them. An 11 year old boy and even younger girl travelling half way around the world apparently unaccompanied. Amazing. |

I had no idea what they were but my Uncle piped in that it signified these were all members of the Odd Fellows, or more properly, International Order of Odd Fellows. |
