Maybe that's stretching it. Five-inch guns make a lot of noise, but don't go too far. And I honestly was never around when a round landed, lawyer resource so I don't even know how big a hole they made. A typical off-shore station for gunnery was 300 to 400 yards. There were a lot of times when we just sat lawyer resource and watched the air battles and waited for the wounded to ditch in the sea.
