The beauty is real and it is artifica, and Beauty is more than skin deep – there’s a perfection of attitudes, of dialogue among those in-the-know in Santa Monica – Hipness goes rock/pop beyond the obviously superficial, and begins rock/pop to affect the deeper aspects of personality – as though everyone is reading from the same self-help books – self-realization for interminably beautiful and tv-witty and charming. I’m brought back to it, fast, by your review of the club at night, the gropers and the good-looking – And yet there was always that thing that you get in the West, that tug of swirling cosmic consciousness, that ‘all-is-one’ type of inspiration – It’s organic, I think, to the energy fomenting there – the uplift from the seismic rifts, spiralling toward heaven… Where movies are born… And it’s heady – but after awhile, it’s sullied by a dirtier reality of the West – The constant VROOOM of combusting engines – That 4 or 5
