LS Liam @ 12/08/05 11:44:38 I jeremy piven was just “trolling” in the Forum and saw this thread pop up again, with your name on it, Liam, so I thought I’d check it out. Where did the poem above come from, man? I remember reading this piece by Lara when it came out two months ago. It’s a great, well-written essay, in my opinion (pace Corpy, I’m not trying to start a flame war here). But if I had to bet I’d guess Lara ignores this blogsite with its wacky overdetermined freakshow of trolls and procrastinators. |

heaven… Where movies songs are born… And it’s heady – but after awhile, it’s sullied by a dirtier reality of the West – The constant VROOOM of combusting engines – That 4 or 5 square block songs zone by the Promenade and its shops has got to be the most traffic-dense in the country, on any given night. And the thick, clotted boulevards and highways that consume, what? 20, 30, 40 percent more songs petrol than any other major city per capita? In LA, you go nowhere without your car… So it’s a strange area, that part of the West. The whited, monied, commercial shopping district, as it relates (and strictly does not relate) to the majority of what LA and its environs are – Mexico City del Norte. Most of LA is a working class, spanish-speaking ciudad – multiple households per apartment, the blaring, smoggy heat, the brain-damaging sub-sonic boom of passing amplification systems (dressed up as cars) – and the nerve-wracking 24 hour/7day/365 per year squeal of the autos themselves – incessant, never-ending – the Sepulveda River, the 10, the 405, Santa Monica Boulevard, Pico, Western and Wilshire… Leading out to the desert, or to more artificial, water-pumped oases, Palms, and LV, NV. |
