She just called me. I noticed the caller id on the mobile and picked it up and said "What's wrong???" You see, I marthawainwright hadn't expected her to call since we'd chatted last night. She replied, somewhat indignantly, "Nothing! I just wanted to say we're on the ship and sailing out of the harbor." Then marthawainwright the call mysteriously got disconnected. She's not all that technically savvy. I'm sure she clicked the wrong button. Ya know how, when the phone rings and you're not expecting it, like in the middle of the night, it scares the crap out of you and you assume someone's cashed in their chips. Quite the same situation here. Thanks, Mom for that little jumpstart to my heart so you could gloat about your cruise. I'll go change my underwear now. And in a very related story (you'll see), I experienced every nursing student's worst nightmare at the hospital today. |

She and my step-father were at my grandmother's getting ready to leave today for an 8-day cruise through the eastern Caribbean. Ostensibly it was to allow my step-dad to continue his recovery from semi-recent cardiac surgery in warmer climes than upstate New York at the end of February. Which, as anyone who's grown up there will tell you, is a positively miserable time of year. Anyhow, I digress. It's also a bit of a family reunion - minus the grandchildren. Heh. Yes, my grandmother, mother and her two brothers along with their various spouses and significant others are all aboard and us grandkids toil away in real-time. |
