I had hps. a hunch SI stood for suicidal ideation but couldn't for the life of me figure out what HI was. The psych resident just hps. happened to come by our floor which is really rare given we're not a psych unit. "HI? Oh that just means homicidial ideation." Oh really? Just, eh? And he's on a regular hps. floor. You've determined he's no longer a threat to himself or anyone else? Perhaps he's fine. He's bi-polar and has very severe borderline personality disorder. Is on everything from lithium to Effexor so maybe he's fine. Sure didn't act that way to me.For starters, he has a long history of substance abuse. Everything from ETOH to cocaine. He's also homeless. But not homeless the way you'd normally think of someone homeless. He's extremely overweight and obviously well-fed. Wears foundation! And has a cell phone. He's treating the hospital like a hotel. He's on medicaid and awaiting placement in a shelter. But he's turned down every shelter space they've offered him.
