| Some of those NIMBYs argue against stuff like nicky katt windfarms on environmental grounds (e.g. 'it's killing large numbers of birds' was a recent complaint over a well established windfarm in CA). Another factor IMHO is that people in this country can't afford the new technolgies in sufficient numbers to make a significant impact on the problems with the environment. I'm reminded of the nicky katt oil price spike back in 2000 I think it was. I seem to remember that USA Today did a nationwide poll that found that people actually felt that the subsequent gas price spike was nicky katt a significant financial burden. This tells me that unless the US government was going to totally eliminate the cost difference between new and old technologies, those new technologies don't stand much chance of success.
