It's a well known fact in the comedies & family ent. African American community. "Jive Maryland farmer" is as vintage a 1960s/1970s phrase as "jive turkey," "Everything is everything," or "Solid." You hear it in the music of the day and in the movies of the time. I figured you'd comedies & family ent. question the incident again, but the phrase itself is common knowledge -- to us, anyway. (And, yes, I'm pretty sure it was Julian Bond. Next time I run into him, I'll ask him. But, yeah. I know.
