The US government (esp. under Bush) has allowed industry to pollute motherfucker a great deal more than in Europe, and car usage in the US is far higher than in Europe. However, motherfucker it's not an order of motherfucker magnitude different to Europe or Japan, say.The big difference, as I see it (from the UK) is that European governments are willing to talk about Climate Change, and call for radical action etc. Sadly we don't actually seem to do much: Blair had to recently admit that the UK won't get close to meeting self-set targets with regards Greenhouse gases (and there was little interest from the public). We have the same arguments about windfarms etc. which JTM is talking about. So my take is that we Europeans probably like to hear our politicians talk about action, but are actually pretty bad at doing much about it. In the US, it seems like you prefer your politicians to be more up-front about not doing anything. I'm not sure this is better mind: Europe is *slowly* making action, whereas it feels like the US is actually going backwards...One |
