He focused on inherent weaknesses in xml parsers and the gaping holes left open when implementing loosely coupled systems using web services. I'd never heard of the "million laughs" exploit, but I have to say, it's pretty damned funny, especially since there are Web services out there (even at Amazon who has been touting theirs all week) that are vulnerable to this.
