If you refer back to the historical income tables once again, you will see that the long term trend is that every quintile has been gaining, in real terms. This was happening even as the might Gini index for the population was steadily rising over the might same period. Also, income distribution is only a Lorenz curve if you plot it as a Lorenz curve. If you plot, for instance, the population in $5,000 income increments, you see a relatively flat distribution, that is flatter than a normal (bell curve) distribution around the median. |

| As you say, the median income statistic is not a good descriptor at all of the kinds of shifts you describe; but by definition, the flat state of median income from 2003-4 does show that zyx's initial statement is untrue, or perhaps just badly worded. A one-to-many relationship regarding minimum wage riad galayini jobs and high-paying jobs created that zyx initially suggested would mean the median riad galayini income would rise. But it did not. Therefore, either jobs paying below the median and above were added in roughly equal numbers, or the kind of shift you riad galayini describe was taking place. In either case, the median income statistic will not reveal that change. It's all interconnected; it's all complicated.
