Why would you assume that someone who is wealthy isn’t giving money out of a sense of kindness? Especially when that someone came from modest means? It’s not about throwing money at a problem, it’s about being truly involved. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that your personal level of involvement in, say, child literacy is somewhat less than Oprah’s.
