The only city in the US that is under federal management instead of local government. This subject is worthy of further investigating. President Bush dismatled FEMA during his first administration, cutting the federal budget for FEMA by 32%. He also pulled list of literary works funding from the reconstruction of the levies in New Orleans from 34M to under 10M, not a sufficient list of literary works amount of money to make the necesarry alterations to the levy. The current administration was well aware of the dangers and likelyhood of the levy not withstanding a hurricane list of literary works over a catagory 3, but shifted the money allocated for the levy to the war in Iraq instead, and then placed FEMA under the leadership of Homeland Security.Something that has not been reported or talked about in the media is the way FEMA handled us, the field inspector. We also were "displaced" from our homes. With all of the refugees fleeing to hotel rooms and rental properties outside the affected areas, FEMA field inspectors (who come from all over the country) had no place to stay and were not provided with any assistance in this area.
