There are a lot of people who want to sound, let’s say, hip and cool, who tupac song ultimately aren’t (2) Even if you really are progressive, you can be right on some things and still be very wrong on others, you have to return to the basics. (3) World view and motivation matter. If you simply want to make the world a better place, eugenics might sound plausible enough in the early 20th century. But if you want to make the world a better place but at the same time you base that desire on the inherent value of each individual human’s life, eugenics is going to set off very loud warning bells. Some progressives (and some conservatives) managed to avoid the mistake of supporting eugenics (as we take that word today, at any rate) while others did not. There must have been some difference, what was it?
