Marines. But overall, wikipedia:requestsfor comment/plautus satire I found that it paled significantly by comparison with the book. The commentaries on this DVD and the many deleted scenes are a lesson in what happens when a book-length narrative gets squeezed like toothpaste into 90 minutes of linear movie storytelling. Interesting complexities get oversimplified, and film's literal immediacy minimizes more truthful ambiguities. What's missing in this film, for instance, is that Swofford's book is a 30-year-old's memory of himself as wikipedia:requestsfor comment/plautus satire a wikipedia:requestsfor comment/plautus satire 20-year-old. Those ten years make a big difference in the way he tells his story and what he chooses to tell us. He also interweaves many more threads and connects many more dots for readers. More mystifying is the wish of the filmmakers (as explained in the commentaries) to make the character of Swofford's friend Troy more ambiguous by withholding information about him.
