| It’s a transparent bit of bullshit now, but apparently, it worked somewhat well for her. That aside, I take issue with Manjoo’s article on the “progressive” theory poem of eugenics on another level–it feeds into the right wing myth that eugenics was primarily a left wing movement and therefore gives them poem a (super weak but they’re grasping) excuse to put themselves on the side of non-racism, despite supporting policies that increase poverty, which is a de facto sort of eugenics. The thing is that eugenics was just a fancy word for racism, and racism was the poem unchallenged belief of the land. Stating simply that eugenics was a progressive idea without contrasting it with what conservatives thought at the time. Which is why, I think, Manjoo kind of doesn’t quite reach the logical conclusion of this thought process: But why didn’t we descend deeper into hell — why, in the end, did sanity prevail in America, where it did not in Germany? |
