The problem with still believing in Marx, from an empirical perspective, is that history didn't take the course he thought it would. The working class grew, but so did the elite class (which he predicted would shrink), punk further, a gigantic middle class emerged to provide a bridge between the two. I think there is some value in Marxist materialist theories and the way factors of production can shape a social system, but Marxism-Leninism-Communism as a prescription for social utopia is pretty flat-out bunk, as far as I can see. |
