More jobs though, that are $5/hr jobs at Walmart or McDonalds, isn't likely to elevate someone out of poverty, so while one might expect those statistics to be inversely related (more jobs -> less poverty) it is really quite dependant on the quality of the jobs created. Two things to consider: Since real median income and employment rate was unchanged from 2003 to 2004, the typical compensation of jobs gained compares with the typical compensation from jobs lost.
