It will display the word count or the author or both - each a true/false selection. In order to display the author's name it assumes your bloggers have a nickname identified. I can't remember advertising if always having a nickname is normal b2evo or something I hacked in, but anyway that's what it uses for the author's name. You get to tell it some of the standard b2evolution sidebar thingies like $before_everything and $after_everything and $before_each_thing and $after_each_thing.
