"I thank God for every day I have in the Corps...", academic March 21, 2006 Reviewer:Vato-Curandero - See all my reviewsJarhead, based on the autobiography of former U.S. Marine Anthony Swafford, is not nearly as bad as previous reviewers have claimed it to be. It is important to note that this movie is NOT attempting to make a statement about warfare - neither for nor against it, and it is not providing a commentary on the current situation in Iraq. Instead, Jarhead puts a movie camera in front of a Marine platoon and then lets the viewer decide for himself or herself. Through Swafford (played by Jake Gyllenhall) and other characters, we are given a glimpse on the emotional toll that life in the armed forces takes on recruits.
