I don't know what its like in other countries but unsigned artists there a plenty of NIMBYs (Not In My Back Yard) in this country that are putting a stop to environment-friendly actions. Some of those NIMBYs argue against stuff like windfarms on environmental grounds (e.g. 'it's killing large numbers of birds' was a recent complaint over a well established windfarm in CA). Another factor IMHO is that people in this country can't afford the new technolgies in sufficient numbers to make a unsigned artists significant impact on the problems with the environment. I'm reminded of the oil price unsigned artists spike back in 2000 I think it was. I seem to remember that USA Today did a nationwide poll that found that people actually felt that the subsequent gas price spike was a significant financial burden. This tells me that unless the US government was going to totally eliminate the cost difference between new and old technologies, those new technologies don't stand much chance of success.
